Les Gros Chums

Les Gros Chums CC is a direct-action NGO based in Tiohtià:Ke (Montréal), supporting marginalized communities through digital empowerment, secure communication, and grassroots outreach.

Les Gros Chums CC is a direct-action charity club. Immigrant-founded and focused on supporting First Nations, Latino, Asian, Black, and marginalized communities within Canada.

Our core principles align with the values enshrined in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We are staunchly pro-LGBTQ+ and support the right of all people to dignity, equality, and self-determination.

Our Mandate

We’re not an awareness campaign — we’re a direct-action charity.

Les Gros Chums supports marginalized communities through hands-on involvement.

We don’t wait for perfect conditions. If something needs doing, we do it.

Current Initiatives

Rugby

Rugby helps young people stay focused by building teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Its physical challenges foster confidence, while the fun keeps them engaged and connected.

We promote physical activity and community through rugby by providing Rookie Rugby kits for elementary students and standard rugby balls for middle and high school students.

McGill Tam-Tams August-September 2025

Join us every Thursday from August through September for a relaxed and welcoming event hosted by Les Gros Chums. Open to all McGill students, this weekly gathering is the perfect opportunity to meet new people, form lasting connections, and strengthen the campus community—especially for graduate students, upper-years, and those new to McGill.

Our official logo depicts a Crested Owl (Lophostrix cristata) and a Coral snake (Micrurus clarki) locked in a mock struggle. These animals were chosen as traditional symbols of wisdom.

Rank & Name

Each of our members is a force in and of themselves, so each carry the rank of Warrior, this is to emphasize our focus to action.

We all also have a nickname, worn beneath our rank.

Colours

Red, white, and blue — these colours represent the founder’s journey: his country of origin (Costa Rica), his former homes (El Salvador, Honduras, Scotland and England), and his current home (Canada).

They also echo the symbolic meaning found in the Costa Rican flag:

  • Blue — the sky under which we all live
  • White — the peace we’re striving for
  • Red — the blood of struggle, past and yet to come
